Workshop for Domestic Help on Waste Segregation at Sector 15A

Effective Segregation means that less waste goes to landfills which makes it better for the people who are involved in handling and managing waste in the sector and also for environment. Almost all the houses have an average of 2 to 3 domestic helps for household works in the sector. Domestic helps, while they do household work like- cooking, cleaning, they handle and dispose the domestic waste off the house by giving it to the waste collector. As they are directly handling waste at source, they play a very important role in effective source segregation in waste management of the sector. To make these maids realize their importance of waste management process, a workshop was conducted in which around 60 domestic helps of the sector participated. To demonstrate the segregation activity, we used 2 bins; green bin indicated wet waste and blue bin indicated dry waste. Different waste items like aluminium foil, fruit peels, tin container, plastic container, empty milk packet, cloth, leather, dry leaves, & we asked the staff to categorize these items into dry and wet waste.
