No. of Bags Distributed: 12,600

Celebrating Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birthday, HCL Foundation installed the Biggest Plastic Bag at The Mall of India. This 24 ft high, 12 ft long and 8 ft wide bag was installed to raise awareness about ‘No to single use plastic’ and was prepared out of non-recyclable waste picked from the streets of Noida to indicate the irresponsible consumption and dumping of plastic by humans. The sculpture displayed the probable plight of humanity by using some gesturing hands and forearms, which appeared to be sinking into the pocket of the bag.The goal of the campaign is to promote cloth bags and asking people to take pledge for reusable bags and say No to Single Use Plastic.

This 5-days long campaign (2nd – 6th October) estimated an offline reach of around 5 to 6 lakh persons. The cloth bag distribution took place on 2nd, 5th and 6th October at the entrance of the mall. A total of 12,600 bags were distributed with a messaging of “Befriend Nature, Unfriend Plastic”. A freeze mob and a flash mob event on the theme of harmful effects of using plastic was organized inside the mall to gain attention of the people. Total 45 artists took part in freeze mob (30) and flash mob (15). Saying ‘No’ to plastic bags is the need of the hour and also the first step in the journey towards a plastic-free planet.
